If there's one return WWE fans are desperate to see take place right now, it's Dean Ambrose.

For months, The Lunatic Fringe has been one of three names that has been heavily discussed among fans regarding a comeback.

RETURNS

That's if you don't include Jason Jordan.

Randy Orton made his return at Extreme Rules by targeting Jeff Hardy, while Rey Mysterio is expected to sign a multi-year contract with the WWE soon.

Now, all of the focus can shift towards the former Shield member and what could possibly be in store for him upon his return to Monday Night RAW.

A popular rumour that had been discussed heading into Extreme Rules was that Ambrose would make a miraculous recovery and come back earlier than expected to help Seth Rollins.

The Kingslayer was involved in a feud with Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre, and fans assumed he could arrive to even the odds.

HEEL OR FACE?

While that didn't happen, there are still some living in the hope that he's back in time for SummerSlam.

One of the biggest rumours surrounding Ambrose, however, is that he's going to be playing a heel when he's back.

This falls in line with speculation that Ambrose was going to turn on Rollins and have a match against him at WrestleMania 34.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, though, doesn't believe a heel return for Ambrose makes any sense.

When speaking on the latest edition of The Ross Report, the legendary JR didn't feel a feud against Braun Strowman would work, and neither would a heel return.

HERO'S WELCOME

The reason being that fans would be too happy to see Ambrose for them to boo.

According to Wrestling Inc, he said: "Dean Ambrose is going to come back to a hero's welcome because he [has] been missed, everybody wants new again.

"And, secondly, I don't know how much momentum Dean Ambrose would have in a programme with Strowman unless you believe losing in 10, 15 minutes is getting momentum. That's probably what would happen.

"So I say you bring him back, let him get reestablished as a fan favourite in that kind of a crazy character that he is, and then let it evolve. But he's going to be a babyface coming back because he [has] been missed.

"He [has] had surgery and the whole nine yards. He [has] missed a big part of a big year for him, so I don't think him coming back as a villain. makes any sense. But we'll see. Stranger things have happened."

Although a heel turn is what many want, JR's suggestion does make sense.

Turning heel right away might not get the desired reaction, as opposed to making the switch when it would be surprising.
