A new era at Chelsea is officially underway after Maurizio Sarri was unveiled on Wednesday afternoon. The Italian replaces compatriot Antonio Conte, who was sacked last week having failed to retain the Premier League title and guiding the Blues to a fifth-placed finish. Before their Premier League opener against Huddersfield on August 11, there is transfer business to be done even if most of the Stamford Bridge faithful wouldn't mind the window slamming shut right now. That's because they face a battle against the odds to keep hold of key men Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, both of whom enhanced their already glowing reputations even further during Belgium's run to the World Cup semi-finals.The goalkeeper won the Golden Glove, while the playmaker scored three goals and assisted a further two.Real Madrid is the likely destination for both and even though Los Blancos have ostensibly ditched their 'Galactico' policy, Courtois could cost as little as €35 million because he only has a year left on his contract in west London. As for Hazard, he is a long-standing target and there is for him to become a key component in the European champions' attack following the departure of top-scorer Cristiano Ronaldo. That would leave Sarri in a difficult position at Chelsea, especially with three weeks until this year's earlier Deadline Day, which will commence before the first weekend of the new campaign. So, what did he have to say on the matter in his first press conference?

Sarri's first comments on Hazard and Courtois

When asked about potentially losing the two stars, he is quoted via the Daily Mail:

"Clearly, we would always like to keep all strongest players this is what any manager wants to do and any club wants to do but we will have to see how transfer market goes over next few days.

"But I want to clarify, I am much more a pitch manager than a general manager.

"I think that I am one of few managers who is bored by [the] transfer market. I don't want to talk about it and not interested in it."

ESPN correspondent Liam Twomey asked a further question comparing Hazard with Dries Mertens, who developed under Sarri at Napoli.

While he described the 27-year-old as one of the "top two or three European players", he added:

"Dries has improved with me but he started at a lower level. I hope Hazard will improve with me but it will be difficult."

Ian Abrahams of talkSPORT added that the new manager plans to sit down with Hazard, Courtois, and Willian - the latter is linked with Barcelona - and won't call them because he wants to hear their plans in person.

There were a few translation issues and things will be much clearer between fans and Sarri when he starts conducting interviews in English as he promises he will do eventually.

In the meantime, Chelsea fans were happy with what they heard and can look forward to seeing some pulsating football at the Bridge.

And while it certainly sounds like the 59-year-old won't have much say over transfers, he seems to have accepted that in a way Conte never did, which is a big positive:

Roman Abramovich may be operating from afar these days, but he has already backed his new man in the dugout with the £50million signing of Jorginho, stealing the midfielder from under Manchester City's noses.

Holding onto their biggest names could be a much bigger challenge.
