One of the main reasons English football fans have fallen back in love with the national team is the fact the current group of players are so likeable.

Most - if not all - of Gareth Southgate’s 23-man World Cup squad have come across as down-to-earth young lads with little ego this summer.

They also united as a team, despite all playing for rival Premier League clubs, and this hasn’t been the case with other groups of players in the past.

Of course, the fact they became the first England team to reach a World Cup semi-final since 1990 certainly boosted their popularity with fans.

But it undoubtedly helped that there were no big-time Charlies in the camp.

There’s been a reconnection between the England players and fans over the past five weeks and long may that continue.

It’s safe to assume that England supporters will now be right behind Southgate and his players ahead of the Euro 2020 qualification campaign.

Dele Alli's incredible gesture for his friends

Just days after England’s tournament ended with that 2-0 defeat to Belgium in the third-place play-off last Saturday, the players have gone on their holidays, getting in some precious relaxation time ahead of what promises to be another gruelling Premier League campaign.

Tottenham’s Dele Alli, who scored for England in the quarter-finals, has gone the extra mile though.

Per the Mirror, the 22-year-old has treated four of his close friends to “an all-expenses paid holiday of a lifetime” in Los Angeles and Ibiza.

The mates he has taken include footballers he played alongside when he was young but failed to make the grade.

One of them is his childhood pal Harry Hickford, who played alongside Alli at MK Dons but now plies his trade for Bishop’s Stortford.

Aaron Greene, who plays for Enfield Town, is another of the group who have flown out to the USA following the conclusion of the World Cup finals in Russia.

Alli is understood to have hired a private jet to take his mates to a penthouse in LA for five days. They are then set to fly to Ibiza for some “VIP nightclub treatment”.

This pricey trip is all being paid for by Alli, who has shown his class with this incredible gesture.

'It shows he's a normal guy'

“Dele’s had a great year and he wants to top it all off by taking his mates on the holiday of a lifetime,” a source close to the group told the Mirror.

“They were planning on booking up a luxury penthouse in LA, where they will spend five days relaxing and shopping, in a place where nobody will know Dele.

“After that they’re heading to Ibiza - and Dele’s paying for it all. It’s going to cost many, many thousands all in.

“They’ll be doing lots of activities in Ibiza and I understand they’re going to be hiring a speedboat.

“I’m sure there will be some VIP nightclub treatment and a few drinks and he’ll probably splash the cash a bit. He does right after the year he’s had.

“They had planned to go for 10 days but they couldn’t all do that, so they shortened it to eight to make sure they could all go and enjoy this downtime with Dele.

“They booked a private plane on Tuesday evening. It’s not something most of the lads will have experienced before so he’s really treating them.

“It shows he’s a normal guy that he’s still so close to his non-famous mates. That’s one of the reasons people have taken to this England team.”

Well played, Dele. Now, how do we become mates with a Premier League footballer?
