Petr Cech is unlikely to be Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper this season after the Gunners splashed out a reported £22 million on Bernd Leno last month. The 36-year-old, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium in 2015 after a hugely-successful 11-year spell with Chelsea, has steadily declined over the past couple of seasons.Arsene Wenger’s successor Unai Emery made a new goalkeeper a priority this summer and fans are more than happy with the acquisition of 26-year-old Leno, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen and has been capped six times by Germany. But where does this leave Cech? Well, he wants to stay at Arsenal and compete for the number one jersey, despite interest from Napoli.“My contract with Arsenal still has a year to run,” he told reporters earlier this month. “The only thing I’m preparing for is the fight for the No. 1 spot in goal.“Napoli were interested but my future is at Arsenal. I didn’t think of changing clubs.”However, Chelsea are reportedly interested in re-signing Cech if Thibaut Courtois joins Real Madrid. This shock news was revealed by Sky Sports earlier this week and it would be a huge surprise if a deal materialised.

Cech's new physique stuns Arsenal fans

A day after that story was published, a rather eye-catching photo of Cech from Arsenal’s behind-closed-doors win over Crawley Town emerged.

Cech made an appearance in the 9-0 victory but his physique took Gunners supporters on social media completely by surprise.

It looks like he’s been in the gym constantly since the end of last season. That top definitely doesn’t fit him properly, in any case.

There’s been some fantastic reaction to the photo. Here are a selection of some of the best tweets…

Does this explain Cech's new physique?

The Daily Cannon, an Arsenal fan-run website, speculate that Cech’s new physique could be the result of the club’s new strength and condition coach, Tim Parham, from the AFL.

Both Cech and Leno got minutes in Arsenal’s emphatic victory. Arseblog youth correspondent George Bird understands the goalscorer were: Lucas Perez (2), Alexandre Lacazette (2), Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, The Jeff, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
