When DeMar DeRozan was traded to the San Antonio Spurs yesterday as part of the deal that saw Kawhi Leonard go to the Toronto Raptors, it once again revived discussions about the NBA 2K curse. For those that don't know, the 2K curse has been alive since the 2014 cover that featured the Miami Heat's LeBron James. Every NBA player with a solo cover since then has changed teams within two years of being featured.Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant was on the cover in 2015, the Indiana Pacers' Paul George was 2016's star, and the Cleveland Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving was 2018's star while DeRozan was on the 2018 Canadian cover. The only blip on the record is 2017 when there were three different covers of Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden, and all three have stayed at their respective teams of the Golden State Warriors, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Houston Rockets since.Naturally, with DeRozan's trade to the Spurs, people are already asking questions about Giannis Antetokounmpo's future with the Milwaukee Bucks since he is the 2019 cover man along with James on the 20th anniversary edition of the game.

Buck For Life

The Greek Freak, however, quickly dismissed any belief that he could jump ship from the Bucks within the next two years with a simple tweet which said:

"2K curse??!! Man please.. 💪🏾💪🏾 #BuckForLife 🦌 #CoverAthlete"

This is bound to please many Bucks fans, but then again, DeRozan was saying the same thing about his future with the Raptors prior to being traded away to the Spurs on Wednesday.

The difference between DeRozan and Giannis might be that the Bucks would be unwilling to part with The Greek Freak at any point in the future so long as he continues to play at an MVP level.

All is well at the moment between Antetokounmpo and the Bucks at the moment, but as we have seen this past week, the NBA 2K curse can strike at any moment.
