After months of speculation of a super-fight between two of boxing's current greatest fighters - Brit Anthony Joshua, and America's Deontay Wilder, many fans were left disappointed to hear this fight would not in fact be taking place.

With both parties blaming each other for the failure of terms being agreed, fans will surely never know the full extent to why this fight failed to take place.

Nevertheless, despite the disappointment to many of the boxing faithful, they will surely take some consolation in the fact Russian fearsome heavyweight Alexander Povetkin will be stepping into the ring to face AJ this time around.

After his brutal knockout of David Price, the former heavyweight WBO champion will be high on confidence ahead of facing Joshua, who is still currently unbeaten (21-0-0).

Povetkin is definitely no mug, and many believe he is sure to give AJ one of his biggest challenges yet.

However, fellow Brit boxer and jungle hero Amir Khan does not share this opinion.

Speaking to ES News, he claimed Joshua will stroll past Povetkin, inspired by the backing of the UK crowd.

He claimed: "Povetkin is a good fighter and he was at the same Olympics as me (in 2004). He's an Olympic gold medallist. We've known him since then and he's a tough guy.

"It's a good fight, but I think Joshua has got his number. He's got the height, the size and he's at home, comfortable.

"I think he's going to win that fight quite easy."

An interesting opinion from Khan, who marked his long-awaited return to the ring with a stunning 40-second knockout on Phil Lo Greco.

He is currently in training ahead of his Birmingham fight with Samuel Vargas, and is fully behind his British counterpart Joshua in the upcoming fight.

Likewise Joshua, Khan also has his eyes on some super-fights, as he talked up clashes between himself and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, as well as the highly-rated Kell Brook.

"Manny looked good, he boxed well. It was a great performance and he looked very sharp.

"I think it's a good time for me to fight him as we are both coming off good wins.

"I have a fight coming up against Samuel Vargas on September 8, but maybe at the end of the year or next year, it could be an amazing fight with Pacquiao.

"I just want to get this September fight out of the way first and see where I go from here.

"There are still big fights out there for me. I've got the Kell Brook fight also."

Despite the fact Joshua vs Wilder will not be happening in the near future, British boxing fans have a lot to look forward to, as Khan and Joshua look to conquer some of the world's greatest, as well as the notorious Tyson Fury making his return to the ring.
