Former Patriots receiver Danny Amendola has been one of many current and ex New England players to criticise the sometimes overly strict culture that exists within the organisation this offseason.

Amendola was allowed to walk and sign with the Dolphins in free agency after receiving an underwhelming offer from the Pats, and it seems as thought he's enjoying his new found freedom down in Miami.

It's no secret that Bill Belichick can be overbearing, difficult to deal with, and sets an extremely high bar in terms of expectations of his players both on and off the field.

It's also no secret that more than a few former Pats have slandered his questionable ways after departing Foxborough at various stages throughout his two-decade long tenure.

Never has that criticism been louder and arguably more justified than in the weeks and months that have followed their damaging Super Bowl loss to the Eagles in February.

Star tight-end Rob Gronkowski has been the leader of the pack on that front, but others like Amendola certainly haven't held back either.

And, now well acquainted with his surroundings and how his new team operates, the versatile wideout seems to be enjoying his football under head coach Adam Gase in a more player first environment.

Amendola outlined the differences between Belichick and Gase on Barstool Sports' Podcast ComebackSzn and it's certainly worth paying attention to his view on which coach he prefers.

“Coach Gase is one of the guys, one of the boys, and you want to fight hard for your boys." Amendola said. "Back in New England, it’s almost like you’ve got a principal, the principal’s office and s–t like that,”

“It’s been great,” Amendola said of his move to South Florida “It’s worked out amazing. All the guys are cool. The team is cool, my group is cool.

"The coaches are awesome. Coach Gase is one of the guys. He’s our leader, he’s our head coach, but he’s also our boy. So it’s cool. It’s refreshing to have that kind of relationship with a coach, something I haven’t had in a long time. I facetimed coach Gase yesterday just to bulls–t with him, just to talk to him. I was talking to his kids. I have a relationship with him that’s real unique, something I haven’t had in a while.”

It's clear that Amendola needed a change from the almost dictator-like regime that Belichick runs in New England, but we'll see if he prefers the outcome or the process more come the end of the season, because once again it'll be a huge shock should the Pats not run away with the division and make yet another deep playoff run.

As for the Dolphins, anything more than a .500 season would be considered a huge success story.
