It looked an impossible task but Liverpool are on the brink of signing Alisson Becker. The Reds' interest in the player has been no secret with rumours tracing back to the final months of last season, yet AS Roma's asking price looked to have completely derailed the club's interest. That was until Wednesday when the news broke that Liverpool had agreed a world-record fee of £66.8 million and had been given permission to speak to the player. Now, it's worth noting that the deal hasn't been finalised quite yet but barring a Nabil Fekir-like plot twist, Kopites can expect an announcement sooner rather than later. And it would be fair to say that supporters are somewhat excited for the 25-year-old's arrival.

Liverpool agree Alisson deal

The club have been without a consistent number one since the departure of Pepe Reina and fans have grown tired of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

Any suggestion that the latter would be given a second chance at the club looked to diminish after yet another error in the pre-season win over Tranmere Rovers.

At one point, it looked as though Jurgen Klopp would invest his truth in Danny Ward but the fanbase has been delighted that the club has pressed for a truly world-class solution.

Liverpool fan's interesting Twitter thread

So, what can Alisson bring to the table in the Premier League?

Kopites have had the opportunity to see him play against Liverpool in the Champions League this year and in the World Cup for Brazil, but few have watched him play weekly in Serie A.

And beyond all the flattering highlights videos that can be found on YouTube, there's no place to hide when it comes to statistics and Liverpool fan @WC_LFC_Torres has crunched the numbers.

In fact, they've posted a fascinating Twitter thread has garnered over 1,500 'likes' in the process and it went down brilliantly with the fans.

The entire thread is 30 tweets long - but here are the highlights:

The fact the top reply is: 'From a Roma fan this is a great thread on Alisson,' says it all really.

And to say the thread went down well with Liverpool supporters generally would be putting it mildly, so check out the reaction here.

Statistical comparisons made between Alisson and Ederson are particularly interesting.

Given Ederson's superb debut season at Manchester City, many people have been excited by the fact Brazil choose Alisson over him but have wondered whether that's justified.

Statically speaking, it seems Tite has every right to select Alisson over Ederson.

That being said, Serie A is a very different animal to the Premier League and the 25-year-old will need to adapt to English football quickly if Liverpool are going to challenge for the title.

There's every reason to suggest he'll fit in nicely, but his price tag and the league's physicality won't make it an easy process.

For the time being, though, fans can keep refreshing their Twitter feed for an announcement guaranteed to spark excitement.
