Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Alisson Becker from Roma in a £67million deal.

In moving to Merseyside, the 25-year-old has become the most expensive stopper of all time.

Jurgen Klopp now has a Brazilian international nicknamed the "Messi of goalkeepers" between the sticks having watched Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius commit countless errors over the past couple of seasons.

Naby Keita, Fabinho, and Xherdan Shaqiri had already been brought in and while that will do Liverpool's spine the world of good, the Alisson signing has to be considered the most crucial.

After a World Cup in which he kept three clean sheets, there were a few nervy days when it looked as though Chelsea might snatch him from under Klopp's nose.

Instead, he opted to reunite with former Giallorossi team-mate Mo Salah, who himself made the move last summer for just £34m.

Speaking after his transfer was confirmed, Alisson confirmed he had spoken to the Egyptian over text and that the forward had encouraged him to get the deal over the line.

Salah was in contact

"Yesterday, Salah sent me a message saying: ‘Hey, what are you waiting for?’" he told Liverpool's official website.

"As the negotiations were at an advanced stage, I replied to him straight away saying: ‘Calm down, I’m on my way!"

Not only has Salah won a Golden Boot and PFA Player of the Year since returning to England, it seems he's also helped the Alisson deal along the way - which should go down very nicely indeed with Liverpool fans.

Amidst all the speculation that new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri was set to lure him to Stamford Bridge, it seems the player himself had no doubt about his next destination.

In 37 Serie A games last season, he kept 17 clean sheets and made 107 saves, per Squawka.

Incidentally, that's the same number as clean sheets kept by Liverpool last season, though those figures were achieved by Karius and Mignolet combined.

It was inevitable that the club would be in the market for a new number one; if Karius' howlers in the Champions League final were put down to an alleged concussion, then there was no excuse for his latest error in the 3-2 win over League Two Tranmere Rovers.
