The wait is over Liverpool fans, Alisson Becker has officially joined the club.

Despite a deal looking dead in the water just weeks ago, Liverpool have resurrected the transfer since the World Cup and have concluded a world-record move for £67 million.

Speaking to Liverpool's official website, Alisson noted: "I'm really happy, it's a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning.

"In terms of my life and my career, it's a huge step for me being part of this club and this family.

“Apart from the fact that the club is massive, the players that have come through here and the titles won, hopefully I can play a part in the history being created here, win titles and be a part of the project that has been developed here in the past few years so we can see Liverpool rise once again.

Alisson signs for Liverpool

"You can be certain that I'll give my all."

Frankly, supporters cannot wait to see the Brazilian between the sticks after arguably five years without a truly consistent goalkeeper in their ranks.

And while it remains to be seen how Alisson will cope with the Premier League, he could make a massive difference for the Reds if he replicates his form with Roma.

Carragher takes to Instagram

Given the magnitude of the move then, it's no surprise that reaction has been rolling in from those associated with the Merseyside club.

That considered, it just wouldn't be the same if Jamie Carragher didn't wade into the debate and he reacted to the move within minutes on Instagram.

The Sky Sports pundit is incredibly vocal about his former club and has been watching Liverpool's transfer business with great interest this summer.

No pressure then, Alisson.

Carragher believes Bruce Grobelaar and Pepe Reina are the only 'good' goalkeepers Liverpool have had since Ray Clemence, and he might be onto something.

Nevertheless, that's a high standard for Alisson to meet and like Carragher says himself, he won't care about the hefty price tag if he can do just that.

It's been thought for some time that a world-class goalkeeper could be the difference between Liverpool ticking over in the top four and challenging for the Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool's summer spending has come to an end now with Fabinho, Naby Keita and Sheridan Shaqiri having also arrived this summer.

That means no Nabil Fekir but even rival fans would admit that Liverpool's squad is now looking rather ominous.

Maybe, just maybe, it could actually be Liverpool's year in 2018-19.
