Last Sunday, WWE put on their July pay-per-view, as Extreme Rules touched down in Pittsburgh.

Now, it seemed that the company had failed to get fans excited for the event and many went into watching it with low expectations.

But in reality, it was actually quite a good show.

THE BEST EXTREME RULES ACTION

There were a number of interesting matches, including Kevin Owens vs Braun Strowman in a steel cage, AJ Styles against Rusev and Alexa Bliss vs Nia Jax.

For once though, WWE saved the best action for last. Rather than having Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley closing the show, they went with Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins.

The pair's 30-minute Iron Man match was the most anticipated of the night so it makes sense to have them in the main event, but this is WWE we're talking about.

It's very interesting that for once, the company decided to have Rollins and Ziggler on last rather than Reigns and Lashley - but that may have something to do with who was backstage.

Or more importantly, who wasn't there.

VINCE SKIPS EXTREME RULES

It's been revealed that Vince McMahon wasn't present at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Sunday night.

Some have speculated that he wasn't there for reasons relating to Hulk Hogan's reinstatement, but that isn't the case.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason Vince wasn't there is far more simple. He was just taking a week off.

Apparently, McMahon does so every year around mid-July - but this time, his time off just happened to clash with a PPV.

STRANGE TIMING

Although the reason for his absence is simple, it seems like very odd timing. It's strange that McMahon would call Hogan in to address the locker room when he's not there himself.

If WWE really are planning to get HH involved again, surely the CEO should be at the forefront of that - and not have him come in when he's not around.

Considering how much controversy the decision has already caused, Mr. McMahon may regret taking this week off. After all, he could have picked 51 others.
