Di Francesco's message to Alisson

That wouldn’t have been possible with Loris Karius in goal.

The German ‘keeper responded to his errors in the Champions League final by making a mistake against Tranmere in pre-season.

Alisson is a serious upgrade.

The Brazilian played against Liverpool in the semi-final of last season’s Champions League.

And Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco is hoping to meet the Merseyside club once again in the European competition.

Why? So that he can try to beat Alisson.

When asked what he said to Alisson before his move to Liverpool, Di Francesco replied: “We hope to meet him in the Champions League and beat him, like I told him today when he came to say goodbye.”

Both teams automatically qualified for the group stages of this year’s tournament.

And if they are to meet, we can only hope that they deliver a clash reminiscent of last season’s duel.

Liverpool’s 7-6 aggregate victory in the semi-final will live long in the memory.

Alisson shipped five goals in the first leg but Liverpool weren’t deterred.

Not only is he more reliable than Karius, but his distribution will play a huge part in assisting Liverpool’s counter-attack.

With Mohamed Salah on one flank and Sadio Mane on the other, Alisson will be asked to get the ball out as quickly as possible.
