Paul Scholes is unquestionably one of the greatest players in Manchester United’s illustrious 140-year history.
The retired midfielder made 718 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 155 goals, and is regarded by most of his former teammates as the best player they ever played with.
Many of his opponents also regard him as a legend of the game. Some of the quotes about the ex-England international from a host of genuine all-time greats are magnificent.
For example, Pele once said: "If he was playing with me, I would have scored so many more."
Zinedine Zidane, meanwhile, famously said: "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder."
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville played with some world beaters during his career including Roy Keane, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs - but he will always rate Scholes as the most talented footballer he played alongside.
The two are close friends and now co-own Salford City FC together alongside other ‘Class of ’92’ members Giggs, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville.

But they took some time out of their busy schedules this summer to look back over some of Scholes’s best goals for Man Utd for Neville’s Sky Sports’ show ‘Soccerbox’.
A five-minute clip from the show has emerged and United supporters on social media are loving it.
Not only does it show two of the club’s heroes reminiscing about some genuine bangers, it also shows how non-plussed Scholes is about looking back at his old goals.
You wouldn’t expect anything less from the Ginger Prince. It all came so naturally to him that he could make the seemingly impossible look easy.
There’s also a great awkward moment at the end of the clip where they talk about *that* kiss after Scholes’s late winner against Manchester City.
“People say it’s love, it’s actually aggression,” Neville pleads. “It’s aggression - it’s a [expletive]”
“Pardon?” Scholes replies, with perfect timing.
For Man Utd fans, this will be your best five minutes of the weekend. Enjoy.
