Football fans still haven’t forgotten what Manchester City did outside the Etihad Stadium before their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool in April.
The club announced each player as they emerged from the team coach, with hundreds of fans watching on.
“It starts now. Make some noise for Manchester City!” the announcer shouts.
It was a pretty laughable affair, with fans on social media mocking the Citizens.
Worse was to come, with club sponsors Etisalat producing a cringeworthy video to celebrate Man City’s Premier League title triumph.
It seems that, for all of their recent success, Man City just can’t stop being cheesy.
Have they learned from the criticism that came their way after the player announcements, or Etisalat’s video?
City's latest idea
Being a season ticket holder at Man City is quite a luxury. You get to watch glorious football played at an extremely high level each time you go.
There really is no need to spoil things by bringing confetti.
But that’s just what the champions want the fans to do. They’ve sent each season ticket holder a bag of confetti to throw when they take on Huddersfield in their first home match of the campaign.
“At our first home match, bring your scarf and throw this confetti in the air when the Champions walk out,” a message on the bag of confetti reads.
The move has gone down about as well as you’d expect.
“Simply don’t know how to be a big club,” Twitter user @cjluck84 wrote.
We can’t wait to see what Man City come up with next.
To be fair, the season ticket pack as a whole looks class.
They clearly just want to create an atmosphere ahead of the first home game of the new season.
But the long-awaited return of football, plus the fact that Man City are reigning champions, should see to that anyway.
Confetti? There’s really no need.
