WWE's SummerSlam PPV could be one of the biggest events the company has this year, and one of the matches they have to get right is the WWE Championship match.

While AJ Styles has been a great champion and face of SmackDown ever since capturing the title from Jinder Mahal in November last year, his feuds have somewhat been underwhelming.

Since becoming WWE Champion for the second time in his career, Styles has had forgetful feuds against Mahal, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. He also feuded against Shinsuke Nakamura, but it didn't live up to the expectation the fans had.

After quickly dispatching Rusev at Extreme Rules, The Phenomenal One needs a new challenger to defend the title against at SummerSlam. His opponent is expected to be announced very soon, but there's only one superstar WWE should book.

Samoa Joe.

It's no secret that Styles vs Joe would be an incredible match as we've seen it happen numerous times outside the WWE, but we've never seen it happen on a WWE PPV.

Also, as for the outcome of this proposed match, The Destroyer desperately needs to come out on top, and for good reason.

Become a force again

Think about what Joe has done on the main roster since making his debut before WrestleMania 33 over a year ago. What has he done? Not that much.

During his time in NXT, The Destroyer was booked as a force of nature, became the first-ever two-time NXT Champion, and looked like he could become one of the top heels in the company.

Since his call-up though, not much has happened for him. If anything, he's always been the guy to put someone else over. Whether it be Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, or Braun Strowman on his most recent PPV at Money in the Bank.

Injuries may have played their part in his inability to make an impact on the main roster, but now WWE has a healthy Joe, it's the perfect time for them to give him the push his career deserves.

Main roster title reign

The Destroyer has only had five televised title matches since moving up to the main roster, two Universal Championship matches, and three Intercontinental title matches, all of which he has been unsuccessful in.

A superstar of Joe's caliber should not be going this long on the main roster without a title reign, and WWE has the perfect opportunity to end this at SummerSlam this year.

He should not only be in the WWE title match, he should win it as well. Styles is a strong enough superstar in his own right to eat the loss and bounce back quickly from it.

This outcome would not only give Joe the title reign he deserves, but it would be the start of what should be an entertaining feud as well that could go on for months.

Legitimise his SmackDown status

Joe has been on SmackDown since he was traded there in the 2018 WWE Superstar Shake-up. He's had a handful of matches here and there, but nothing really to give him the momentum he deserves.

WWE has too many superstars on SmackDown for Joe to just compete for the United States title. He needs to be in the WWE title frame, as he can be so much more for the company than what they are booking him right now.

It makes no sense for WWE to move The Destroyer to the blue brand if he is not going to be used in a main event capacity, as that's the spot he warrants. If booked right, he can be the biggest heel in the company.
