Back in June 2015, Tyson Kidd took part in a dark match against Samoa Joe. It would be a match that would change his wrestling career forever.During the match, Kidd received a severe neck/spinal injury from Joe's Muscle Buster finishing maneuver. He later tweeted that only 5% of people survive his injury and that he had 16 staples, four screws, and a rod inserted in his neck. The injury brought an end to Kidd's wrestling career, and now today he works as a producer for the WWE, where he is helping create some excellent matches.WSVN-TV entertainment reporter Chris Van Vliet spoke with Kidd at That Wrestling Event in Orlando on Saturday and asked him about that night and what he remembers of it.

Voice

He said that he remembers vivid details from that night, including about a voice speaking to him saying he wouldn't permanently be paralyzed.

Kidd said, via NoDQ: “I remember everything very vividly. I lost feeling for about five seconds. Everything. Head to toe. Times ten. You just sit there in no control. I was in no control, I was at a higher power’s mercy.

"You’re just sitting there, all of a sudden your body feels like it weighs like 2 million pounds. But there was some weird voice telling me this isn’t permanent.

"Now in that five second span I’m thinking this little voice is telling me this but that doesn’t mean this voice is right though. But luckily, thankfully it was.

"I ended up going to a hospital then they transferred me to a different hospital. I stayed overnight then the doctor came the next morning and said ‘hey, I want to do emergency surgery on you.’

"Fortunately with WWE we have access to the best of the best so Natty said to him ‘Are you the best?’ and the doctor said ‘No, I’m not the best but I can do it’ and she said ‘You’re not touching him.’

"And I got airlifted a couple of days later from San Antonio to Tampa and the best guy happened to be in Tampa.”

Following his neck injury, Kidd said he was contacted by WWE legends Kurt Angle, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Edge, who have all been through similar injuries.

He said: “As soon as I got hurt Kurt Angle reached out to me and Steve Austin reached out to me and Edge who I already had a pretty good relationship with.”

It would be great to see Kidd in the ring for one more match, but as he says himself in the interview, being temporarily paralyzed puts a lot of things in perspective. He was incredibly lucky on that night after what must have been a very traumatic experience.
