Some fans still find it hard to believe that Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins was the main event of Extreme Rules.

Recent history tells us that when Brock Lesnar isn't around to defend the Universal Championship, Roman Reigns is more than likely to go on last.

EXTREME RULES

It seems as if WWE had learned from their mistakes, though, following on from the backlash the company received after his main event clash against Samoa Joe at the appropriately-named Backlash pay-per-view.

Although the decision to move Lashley and Reigns out of the main event was a late one, the fact that a guaranteed show-stealer between Ziggler and Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship in an Ironman match was going to main event was universally welcomed.

Reports heading into the event claimed that this was the match many officials were hoping would close the show, with the WWE Championship clash between AJ Styles and Rusev receiving almost no support.

However, some significant issues during Rollins' match with Ziggler reportedly left the former Shield member extremely upset, per a report from Rajah.

The source is claiming that the major issues happening behind the scenes all revolved around the countdown clock during the main event.

BACKSTAGE ISSUES

The Pittsburgh crowd have drawn plenty of criticism from fans online after they decided to count down from 10 - compete with the buzzer sound - every minute at around the 24-minute mark.

Evidently, fans watching at home were upset as WWE gave them a fresh, excellent main event and the audience in attendance didn't make it sound like they were appreciative of that.

This reportedly irritated Kevin Dunn to the point where he called for the clock to be removed from the big screen inside of the arena.

This made the situation a lot worse.

UPSET

The audience started to chant 'bring back the clock' while they also began to count down from 10 at random parts during the match.

Since then, videos emerged of Rollins and Ziggler whispering to each other that the reaction and environment were much better when the clock was up, before it eventually came back.

The source added that this entire situation resulted in Rollins being extremely upset backstage at how everything ended up playing out in the main event match.

There's no denying that it was an absolute mess.

WWE made the decision to have Rollins and Ziggler to close the show so that fans didn't turn on the original main event in Lashley vs. Reigns.

Based on how everything played out, though, even that decision backfired, and nobody can blame Rollins for being upset.
