It's hard not to feel sorry for Loris Karius after everything that's happened in recent months.

Mistakes against Real Madrid in the Champions League final and in a recent friendly with Tranmere have seen the Liverpool goalkeeper come under heavy scrutiny.

And things got even worse on Sunday when he was arguably to blame for two goals in the 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Aware that Karius simply isn't good enough, Jurgen Klopp has signed Alisson for £66m and he's already confirmed that the Brazil international will be Liverpool's No.1.

"We brought in Alisson and it is clear that he will be our number one," said Klopp last week. "Otherwise, you don't pay that kind of money.

"For Karius, this transfer is not so great. When you sign the Brazilian number one you don't tell him he has six weeks to prove himself.

"Still, we have enough matches so everybody can play. He still has the possibility to develop. He is a great keeper and he can still show that with us in the future."

KARIUS DEMOTED TO NO.2

So what exactly does Alisson's move mean for Karius? Well, for now it's simply that the German will start the 2018/19 season as second choice.

However, it's been revealed by the Telegraph how Karius reacted to Klopp bringing in Alisson and it pretty much sums up his state of mind at the moment.

Instead of wanting to fight for the No.1 spot and prove his worth, it's claimed that Karius is "bitterly disappointed" with being displaced and is now considering leaving.

He's also said to be "shocked" by the lack of communication from Klopp that he wanted to sign a new goalkeeper - not that Klopp owes him any favours.

Clearly Karius doesn't fancy his chances against Alisson, which says a lot about his confidence levels and general attitude.

Speaking to Sky Germany, the 25-year-old admitted that his situation at Liverpool isn't perfect and that he doesn't know what will happen.

"Of course that's not perfect for me," said Karius of Alisson's move, "but I cannot say much more about that.

"I do not know that, I cannot say what I'm doing right now, there's still some time left [in the transfer window]."
