Chelsea kicked off their pre-season campaign with a friendly match against Australian outfit Perth Glory on Monday.Maurizio Sarri, taking charge of the Blues for the first time, named the strongest starting line-up available to him, with players including Alvaro Morata, Cesc Fabregas and Pedro all getting a run-out.It was Pedro who gave Chelsea the lead in the fifth minute courtesy of a cross from 17-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi.No further goals were scored on a humid evening at the Optus Stadium. However, Sarri will be pleased with the victory, even though the first couple of pre-season games are mostly about fitness rather than the full-time result.Chelsea fans also got their first glimpse of new £50 million signing Jorginho, who worked under Sarri at Napoli. The 26-year-old, who has been capped eight times for Italy, lined up in central midfield alongside Fabregas and Ross Barkley in a 4-3-3 system.

Jorginho makes big impression on Chelsea fans

Although he only played 45 minutes, Jorginho made a big impression on his new supporters.

Per the London Evening Standard, the Italian touched the ball 101 times during the first half and completed a remarkable 98 passes.

Chelsea fans were impressed with his passing ability but the quality which stood out to many on social media was his natural leadership - something the Blues have lacked on the pitch since the departure of John Terry last summer.

Even though Jorginho has only been at Chelsea for a week, he was prepared to boss his teammates about and dictate the tempo of the game from midfield.

No wonder Pep Guardiola wanted him at Manchester City this summer - the Italy international probably reminded him a little of himself.

Jorginho-Kante partnership could be fire

Chelsea fans are now salivating at the prospect of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante lining up together in central midfield this season.

If this performance is anything to go by, the Jorginho-Kante axis could prove to be the best central midfield partnership in the Premier League.

Of course, it’s still extremely early days, and Jorginho will face significantly tougher tests than Perth Glory when the competitive action gets underway next month.

But the initial signs are very, very promising.
