Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness appalled football fans with his reaction to Mesut Ozil retiring from international football this week.

Ozil took the decision on Sunday evening via a lengthly statement on social media, referring to the 'racism and disrespect' he's faced in Germany as his reasoning.

On the whole, the footballing world has rallied around the German midfielder in agreement that any such discrimination is unacceptable in sport and society as a whole.

Mr. Hoeness, however, was not so sympathetic to the news and shocked the sport's community with a fiery reaction to Ozil's retirement.

On Monday afternoon, he reacted by saying: "I'm glad it is over. He's been playing dirt for years.

Hoeness' classless comments

"He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup. And now he hides himself and his c*** performance behind this photo.

"The development in our country is a catastrophe. You have to go back to what it is: sport. And from a sporting point of view, Ozil has no place in the national team for years."

Well and truly classless from the Bayern Munich man and supporters have been sure to condemn his comments in the face of such unfortunate circumstances.

Mesut Ozil's agent delivers response

And one man in particular who simply couldn't ignore Hoeness' comments was Ozil's agent, Dr Erkut Sogut.

In an exclusive statement with Goal.com, Sogut delivered the mother of all responses to Hoeness and it came in epic proportions. Here are the highlights, and it's quite something:

"The comments of Mr Hoeness miss the point completely, as they have absolutely nothing to do with football.

"Mr Hoeness cannot even provide any actual evidence to back up his foolish statements that are clearly exaggerated. In this case, the stats are clear. Twenty-three goals, 40 assists - which is a German record - and five-time German player of the year - three of which come after 2014.

"He claims that Mesut has been a 'ghost' for years, but what 'ghost' wins all these awards and has this much success? Mesut created more chances in the 2018 World Cup per 90 minutes than any other player, but, of course, he singles him out for criticism.

"If Mesut is such a bad player, what does this say about his opinion on Joachim Low, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho? These are three elite managers who praise Mesut as one of the best in his position.

"These lies are cheap, stereotypical and baseless comments - made without any foundations - that allow hurtful news to spread.

"Not only is he a disgrace to himself, but also and more importantly a shame to German football and the people of Germany."

There are comebacks, and there are comebacks.

You've got to respect Sogut for coming out and defending his client in the most thorough and essentially irrefutable way possible.

Ozil's agent went into even further detail during the statement, so you can view all of his quotes here.

It's hard to imagine Hoeness will have anything in the way of a solid response to Sogut's comments and it would take quite the turnaround for the wider public to improve of them.

But regardless of the statistics and opinions of Ozil's performances, it's the alleged racism and discrimination that is the important issue in need of addressing.
