Tony Bellew causes stir after giving his opinion about Liverpool signing Alisson

Liverpool pulled off on the biggest coups of the summer transfer window last week with the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Reds in a £66.8 million deal from AS Roma, is widely regarded as one of the best keepers in Europe after an outstanding season in Serie A last term.

Alisson is now the most expensive goalkeeper of all time and will be expected to hit the ground running at Anfield.

He will automatically become the Merseyside outfit’s number one, ahead of both Simon Mignolet and the hapless Loris Karius, whose confidence remains shattered following his disastrous performance in May’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Karius has continued to look unconvincing in pre-season and either he or Mignolet could now leave Anfield before the transfer window closes on August 9 following Alisson’s arrival.

The signing of Alisson has shortened Liverpool’s odds of winning this season’s Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now currently priced at around 4/1 (second favourites behind Manchester City) to win the league for the first time since 1990.

Bellew drops his honest opinion about Alisson

However, boxer and passionate Evertonian Tony Bellew gave his honest opinion about Liverpool’s new boy in an interview on talkSPORT on Tuesday.

He has caused a stir by insisting that Liverpool have spent more than double what Everton paid for Jordan Pickford - and ended up with an inferior goalkeeper.

“I’d just like to say, I remember being laughed at by many Kopites when Everton signed Jordan Pickford for £30m, saying we had just bought a relegated goalkeeper and all that,” Bellew said.

“Well, you have just paid £66m and you’ve only got the second best goalkeeper on Merseyside!”

Needless to say, Liverpool fans have had plenty to say about Bellew's comments on social media...

Other Everton fans might be thinking the same thing

He won’t be the only Everton fan thinking the same thing after Pickford’s hugely impressive performances for England at this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.

The 24-year-old enhanced his reputation at this showpiece international tournament with a string of fine performances and even helped the Three Lions win their first ever World Cup penalty shoot-out.

Pickford’s standout displays have reportedly caught the attention of Chelsea, who are expected to lose Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

Everton could now face a battle to hold on to the former Sunderland shot-stopper - and if he does leave Goodison Park, you can be certain that Liverpool fans will head straight to Bellew’s Twitter replies to give him some stick.
