The Unai Emery regime is well underway in Arsenal's pre-season training.

It's been almost three months now since the Spaniard was unveiled as the club's new manager and the squad are gradually adapting to his methods after 22 years of Arsene Wenger.

Videos on social media have indicated that Emery is placing quite the focus on fitness with players looking exhausted and spread out on the pitch after gruelling tests.

So far, Arsenal fans have only seen the new regime in action once with the Gunners taking on Boreham Wood in their opening pre-season friendly.

Of course, there was only so much supporters could take from a game against National League opposition but an 8-0 thrashing must have been good for confidence.

Arsenal's pre-season training

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged himself a hat-trick on the day with Reiss Nelson, Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining him on the scoresheet.

Arsenal have also played behind-the-scenes friendlies with Crawley and Brentford, winning 7-0 and losing 2-1 respectively.

However, preparations are now well underway for far more taxing fixtures as games against Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Lazio approach.

Arsenal players try 'speed test'

And one way Emery has been gearing up his Arsenal players for those tougher tests is by challenging their sprint speed over a short distance, and in competitive circumstances.

Arsenal posted a video on their Facebook page on Wednesday morning showing squad members taking each other on in short sprints and the results are intriguing. Take a look below:

Rob Holding vs Sead Kolasinac = Holding (just).
Reiss Nelson vs Jordi Osei-Tutu = Nelson.
Eddie Nketiah vs Konstantinos Mavropanos = Nketiah.
Lucas Perez vs Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang = come on, you know the answer to that.

Frankly, Aubameyang's pace was taking the mickey - check out the full video below:

Aubameyang is just so fast, there's no two ways about it.

You can tell that the 29-year-old has worked on his sprinting technique in the past, whereas new signing Matteo Guendouzi won't be converting to athletics anytime soon.

It must be wondered why Perez was the person chosen to run with Aubameyang, though, and Arsenal fans would have loved to see him race Hector Bellerin.

The Spanish full-back is formidable over a short distance and his physique would give him an advantage over Aubameyang for any distance below 40 metres.

When Aubameyang is able to unwind his rangy stride, however, it seems nobody can catch him.

And aside from his electric pace, the Gabon international has been scoring for fun in pre-season and there's quiet hope he could win the Premier League Golden Boot next season.
