The UFC has revealed who Tyron Woodley's next title defense will be against, just days after he slated two possible opponents for his next fight in an interview.

The UFC welterweight champion was asked about possibly facing either interim champion Colby Covington or undefeated contender Darren Till later this year.

During the interview, he said that both fighters were full of it, but now he has been booked to face one of them in just a few months time in the main event of UFC 228.

Woodley vs Till

According to ESPN, UFC announced that Woodley is set to defend his UFC welterweight title against Till on September 8 in the main event of UFC 228 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

UFC President Dana White announced as well that because Covington is unable to fight on that date after having surgery on Tuesday to correct a nasal issue, he will be stripped of the interim belt the moment the fight between Woodley and Till starts.

No Colby

The interim champion had said he'd be ready to return in November for UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden, but the UFC could not afford to wait that long to book the fight because there were few options available to headline UFC 228 in September.

UFC couldn't wait that long, so instead, Woodley will now face off against Till.

The British fighter is coming off a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson in May, but he did miss the weight for the contest by three pounds.

Woodley, on the other hand, would be fighting for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery in December.

The Chosen One is approaching the two-year anniversary of the night he captured the UFC welterweight championship with a first-round knockout of Robbie Lawler in July 2016. He has successfully defended the welterweight title three times since that night.

He fought twice against Stephen Thompson, the first of which was a majority draw; and once against Demian Maia, which finished via unanimous decision.
