Liverpool certainly had plenty of money at their disposal when Philippe Coutinho moved to Barcelona.

The Reds managed to procure one of the largest transfer fees in history and supporters eagerly awaited how Jurgen Klopp would look to spend those funds.

Of course, it can only be assumed that the Coutinho deal went a long way towards funding Virgil van Dijk's £75 million switch from Southampton which came just a week before.

That being said, Coutinho's departure has generally encouraged greater spending at Anfield as the club looks to close the gap towards Manchester City.

In fact, the nature of Liverpool's transfer activity has led many people to suggest that the Reds could challenge for the Premier League title in 2018-19.

Liverpool's impressive business

Naby Keita finally arrived on Merseyside after a deal was agreed last year, Fabinho was brought in under the radar and Xherdan Shaqiri was signed as much-needed back-up to the club's front three.

That's not to mention arguably the most important signing of them all with Liverpool signing Alisson Becker for a world-record fee.

As a result, Liverpool could line up with a starting XI not too dissimilar to this: Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Andrew Robertson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool fans predicted in February

Pretty impressive, we're sure you'll agree, but did Liverpool fans expect things to turn out this way?

Well, a Reddit thread has emerged from February where Kopites named their 'dream XI' for the 2018-19 campaign and it looks very interesting now.

And seeing that Klopp has effectively confirmed that Liverpool's spending is over, now seems the perfect time to reflect on the suggestions. Take a look at them below:

Alisson Becker/Jan Oblak, Nathaniel Clyne, Stefan de Vrij, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Sessegnon, Jorginho, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Very interesting indeed, you can check out the rest of the Reddit thread here.

Now in the summer, Liverpool fans need to give Klopp another massive round of applause for signing Alisson because basically everybody wanted him as their Karius replacement as early as February.

It's also very interesting to see Jorginho make so many appearances in the midfield, especially now he has signed for Chelsea and was also chased by Manchester City.

The likes of Doucoure, Sessegnon and Milinkovic-Savic are also listed as interesting potential signings.

However, most Kopites will surely be happy with the business they've completed this summer, give or take the collapse of the Fekir deal before the World Cup.

And although not everybody got the dream starting XI they were asking for, Klopp has done pretty damn well.
