Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte has taken aim at recently retired former champion David Haye during an interview ahead of his match-up with Joseph Parker.

Whyte is due to fight former WBO world champion Parker on Saturday at the 02 Arena in a clash that, the 30-year-old Brit hopes, will cement his place as the number one contender to Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder's world titles.

Parker is coming into the fight on the back of a decision loss against Anthony Joshua, but it is not his opponent that Whyte has chosen to focus on ahead of his fight.

In the past, Whyte has attempted to engage former champion David Haye in a war of words in an effort to secure a showdown with the now retired Haymaker.

Now, Whyte has taken exception to Parker being allowed access to Haye's gym to train ahead of Saturday's bout.

Whyte told IFL TV, via Boxingscene: "David is a scumbag. He’s a piece of turd. He’s not very patriotic is he?

“It’s all about David, isn’t it? It’ll be funny to see what he does now without the limelight now he’s retired.

"I used to like David. He never said anything nice about anyone. As a person he thinks he’s better than everyone. He thinks he’s a higher class and that is how he’s always been.

“I’ve called him out before for a fight and he keeps slagging me off. David is what David is, he’s a bit of a media whore and that is what it is.

"[He’s had a] very good career. One of the best fighters to come out of England, I just think he’s a punk, I don’t respect him. But I respect what he’s done in the ring."

Whyte will have to refocus ahead of his fight on Saturday if he's to stand any chance of overcoming 26-year-old Parker, who is aiming to knock out the British fighter in fewer round than Anthony Joshua.

Parker told SkySports: "That's my goal now. What's AJ, seven right? I'm going to knock him out earlier and I'm going to say, 'And what AJ? And what?'

"I think if I knock him out earlier, it will send a statement."
