Liverpool target Mario Gomez says he sees no reason to leave Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old had been the subject of interest from Liverpool prior to deadline day as the Anfield club neared a deal to take the striker on a season-long loan.

However, the German club reportedly pulled the plug on the move just 48 hours prior to the transfer window closing.

Gomez had allegedly been desperate to leave the Allianz Arena having failed to make an impact there after a Bundesliga record 35 million euro transfer from Stuttgart last summer.

But the Germany international now says that a move away from Bavaria is “not an issue anymore”, and he is happy to remain with Bayern.

"I have said that if I leave Bayern I will go abroad,” he told German newspaper Bild.

"Then came this interesting offer from Liverpool. I took the loan offer seriously and discussed it with my family and girlfriend because I just want to play.

"But Bayern gave me the impression that they see a future for me. And therefore a change was not an issue anymore."
