Pre-season is an opportunity for teams to fine-tune their preparation ahead of a long season.Although teams would be happy with a good performance and victory in their friendlies, the games are usually not taken all that seriously. There was, however, a major exception in Sheffield Wednesday's friendly against Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.Although Sheffield Wednesday are two divisions above Mansfield, the League Two side held a 2-1 lead going into the final moments of the game. But, for whatever reason, Fernando Forestieri suddenly went flying into a challenge from behind on Hayden White. That sparked ugly scenes as both players and staff from both teams flooded onto the pitch in a mass brawl.Watch Forestieri's challenge and the resulting mass brawl below:

And here's a view of the brawl from the stands:

That is crazy. All that in a 'friendly' match.

Forestieri has been accused of throwing a punch, and can be seen being thrown to the floor in the incident.

Nevertheless, it really was a very poor challenge and one that Mansfield players had every right to be angry with.

BBC journalist Rob Staton has confirmed that the FA are indeed looking into the incident, which could see Forestieri heavily punished.

Mansfield manager David Flitcroft condemned the melee in his interview after the match, where he confirmed one of his players was punched in the face.

"You could really feel it boiling over," he explained. "The events that happened afterwards are not scenes you want to see at any football game.

"Calum Butcher has a cut lip. He’s been punched in the face. We’ll get to the bottom of it and go from there."

And Sheffield Wednesday's manager, Jos Luhukay, also commented on the incident after the game.

“I’ve never seen anything like that in a friendly," he admitted. "It was short but it was an explosion.”

That's not the ideal preparation for both sides with the season only a matter of weeks away.
