Manchester United are going into the new season in a rather precarious position.

After an underwhelming transfer window so far and a manager who is clearly unhappy, fans can be forgiven for not being too optimistic.

The Red Devils' pre-season tour of the US hasn't exactly helped matters, with lacklustre performances being combined with big players getting injured.

Antonio Valencia is one of the major casualties and with new signing Diogo Dalot out until September, United will be very bare at right-back come their first game v Leicester.

Victor Lindelof will likely have to deputise in the role.

The whole defence is looking out of sorts, with Jose Mourinho yet to get one of his key transfer targets.

Toby Alderweireld, Alex Sandro and Harry Maguire are all no closer to being new arrivals at Old Trafford this summer.

Missing out on Sandro is a huge blow, leaving United going into the new season with just Luke Shaw available after Ashley Young's exploits with England at the World Cup.

And Shaw hasn't done much to win over fans with his performances despite his social media posts about regaining fitness throughout the summer.

In fact, a number of them want him out of the starting XI come the game vs Leicester - with Sandro preferably brought in.

Nevertheless, it seems Mourinho may have changed his tone towards Shaw, because a journalist at the game spotted his touchline reaction to one of his errors.

Instead of publicly berating him, the boss actually encouraged him and applauded him.

However, the reaction from United fans to the tweet was a lot less encouraging.

They're certainly growing restless.

FANS STILL NOT HAPPY WITH SHAW

Shaw reportedly rejected a move to Everton this summer and is intent on fulfilling the final year of his United contract to try and break into the team.

While his stance is admirable, it seems that he really doesn't have much of a future at the club and United are missing out on making some money back on him.

As soon as Young is back to match fitness, we probably won't see much of Shaw in a United shirt again.
