For months now, rumours surrounding Rey Mysterio's WWE return have been flying.

Back in January, he made a shock appearance at the Royal Rumble, entering at number 27.

A BRIEF COMEBACK

In that match, Mysterio eliminated Adam Cole before Finn Balor threw him over the top rope - ending his own participation prematurely.

A couple of months later at the Greatest Royal Rumble PPV in April, Rey made another short cameo in the 50-man match.

After getting involved in two separate events, WWE fans have been expecting to see the legend return on a more regular basis - but that hasn't happened yet.

Still, though, there have been plenty of rumours suggesting that he's close to re-joining the company.

MYSTERIO'S POTENTIAL CONTRACT

Earlier in July, a number of outlets reported that Mysterio had already penned a new WWE deal - however, it appears those rumours were a bit premature.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, per Ringside News, Rey has still not signed - but they also note that he's expected to do so very soon.

And after what Mysterio himself has revealed recently, he could potentially agree on a deal any day now.

FINISHING HIS CAREER WITH WWE

During a recent interview, The Master of the 619 explained that he wants to "close out" his career with WWE - and also revealed that he is coming to the end of his run.

"It is in my agenda. I would definitely like to close out my career with WWE," Mysterio told Noelle Foley, per NoDQ.

"With that being said, I don't have much left on my watch. So I'm thinking anywhere from three to five years and I can really see a possible return to WWE without a doubt."

Those comments will surely excite fans. Yes, Rey knows that he's coming to the end of his career - but there's no doubt that he wants to end it with WWE.

And as he suggests that he has anywhere between three and five years left in him, then the sooner he signs, the better.
