Liverpool fans are pretty excited ahead of the new Premier League season - and you can’t exactly blame them.

While the Reds haven’t won a trophy since the League Cup in 2012, they appear to be getting closer and closer to breaking that duck under Jurgen Klopp.

After losing the Champions League final in May, Liverpool have now lost three consecutive finals under the German boss.

But it’s the Premier League that everyone at Anfield desperately wants to win, considering they’ve haven’t been crowned champions since its inception.

Last season, they finished 25 points behind champions Manchester City but there’s hope they can trump Pep Guardiola’s side this time around.

Why?

Four reasons - Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool have done some superb business in the transfer window and now have a squad capable of a genuine title challenge.

Kopites probably can’t wait 15 days until the new campaign starts so, to whet their appetite, Football Manager, via TalkSPORT, have simulated how their season will go.

And it’s not great news.

Liverpool could only finish fifth in the league, behind Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, there was a repeat of last season’s Champions League quarter-final against City.

However, this time, Guardiola’s side progressed to the last-four after winning 5-3 on aggregate.

But Liverpool got their revenge in the FA Cup final to win their first trophy in more than eight years.

A Mohamed Salah brace finally saw Klopp win a final as Liverpool manager, with his winner coming in the 114th-minute in extra-time from the penalty spot.

The best-performing XI for Liverpool was rather interesting as well.

Nathaniel Clyne edged out Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, while Fabinho, Keita and Adam Lallana made up the midfield three.

Then, as expected, Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Fimino posted as Liverpool’s front-three.

However, the trio could only manage 47 goals between them - as opposed to 91 during the 2017/18 campaign.

If Football Manager’s prediction if Liverpool’s season is true, then Klopp will no doubt find himself under immense pressure at Anfield - despite winning a trophy.
