Eddie Hearn reveals video exchange with Billy Joe Saunders after announcing Demetrius Andrade fight

Middleweight world champion Billy Joe Saunders and mandatory challenger Demetrius Andrade will meet this autumn after their promoters Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn came to an agreement yesterday.

Both fighters are undefeated and the bout could take place in October in the US.

“Money talks. The deal is done,” said Andrade.

“Now it’s my time to do what I’ve been wanting to do.”

Warren and Hearn reached an agreement just before a purse bid for the fight was set to take place.

Hearn signed Andrade, a southpaw like Saunders, two weeks ago in his mad dash to line up talent ahead of the launch of DAZN.

Andrade (25-0, 16 KO2), 30, is a 2008 US Olympian and a former two-time junior middleweight champion.

He had been scheduled to fight October 6 in Chicago on Hearn’s first US-based DAZN card, but once the deal with Saunders was made, that quickly changed.

Saunders, also a 2008 Olympian, won his 160-pound world title by majority decision against Andy Lee in December 2015 and has made three successful defences.

Most recently, he dominated former champion David Lemieux in Lemieux’s home region in Quebec.

On December 16, Saunders had been scheduled to defend his belt against countryman Martin Murray on June 23, but withdrew because of an injury.

The fight had already been postponed before that when Saunders suffered a hand injury, and Murray called the Hertfordshire-born fighter a “hypocrite”.

Hearn recently spoke to iFL TV regarding interactions with Saunders after he announced the deal via various social media platforms.

“I did an instagram video last night just to say that a deal had been reached, and Billy Joe sent me a DM video saying ‘remember what you said, he’s challenging and I’m going to smash him all over the ring etc’.

“So I went back and said ‘I can’t believe you’re getting this much money, congratulations, and I look forward to the press conference’.

“I’ve got a lot of time for Billy Joe, great fighter, great personality, let’s see what happens come October.”
