When Bobby Lashley returned to the WWE the night after WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, his return was greeted with plenty of fanfare.

Lashley left the company in 2008 and during his 10 years away from the WWE, he was the main man in TNA and also built himself a nice MMA record of 15-2.

When he returned, he was immediately seen as a main event talent who could have several dream match-ups - one of which could be against fellow MMA enthusiast, Brock Lesnar.

Lashley has knocked of Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns since his return, but a loss against the latter last week on Raw seemingly saw him lose the chance to face Lesnar at SummerSlam for the Universal title.

Although Lashley was an ECW world champion during his last run, he has never had one of the top world titles for the company.

It's hard to say why Lashley has never been the main guy in the WWE before; his in-ring work is now better than ever and he's always been a very powerful performer and his look is one that Vince McMahon famously adores.

Speaking on the Edge & Christian Pod of Awesomeness, former 11-time world champion Edge summed up why Lashley isn't quite bought as a number one guy.

"I just don't buy that [Lashley] can be mean," Edge added. "When he sets up for anything I don't believe it. When I look at him -- wow. Then I look at his face and I don't buy it. I know that sounds like a knock and Bobby's a great guy but that to me, has always been the missing ingredient. It's just that level of, 'mmm I don't really feel like you want to tear this person's head off. That's also the knock on Reigns sometimes too."

Christian would then go on to say that he believed Lashley had everything necessary to succeed, but his personality needs to shine.

"Even Bobby Lashley, like he's improved so much since his time away from WWE and since he's come back. I think he's one of these guys as far as personality goes I think there's a lot of room to grow and that sort of thing. That's all comfort level too as far as coming back and getting your feet wet. As far as the in-ring performance stuff goes the dude is on point."

Lashley has always been portrayed as a babyface in the WWE and given his look, that's fairly understandable. But if people are pining for the believable badass that Brock Lesnar portrays, Lashley will undoubtedly have some work to do.

However, that's down to the WWE creative team to write the angles and bring that out of him, too.
