Fernando Alonso has vented his frustration at the constant playing of his team radio over the Formula 1 world feed following his latest outburst during qualifying at the Hungarian GP.

The double world champion has become known for his combative, amusing and angry chats with his race engineer over strategic decisions and car performance to name a few topics.

Alonso's latest radio nugget came as McLaren decided tyre strategy in Q2 with the weather worsening and the Spaniard stuck in 11th place, just outside the positions needed to make Q3.

His race engineer would ask if the circuit would be better suited to fresh intermediates or whether a switch to the full (extreme) wets was needed?

“I think we should go to the garage, I don’t know, mate. Put whatever tyre you want," was his response. "The last sector is impossible so even if you put on a rocket ship we would be 11th.”

Ultimately, Fernando, who turns 37 on Sunday, would be proven correct as conditions didn't get any better and he would remain just outside the top 10.

But such is the regularity that his team radio is played to the millions of viewers, Alonso admits it is becoming a problem.

“The FOM is quite annoying already with my radio,” he said after qualifying.

“I don’t know what problem they have to put my radio always, and I don’t know what was not normal about the conversation when the track is getting worse.

“You cannot improve any more the times, you chat about which tyres to put and if it’s worth doing another run or not. It’s their favourite hobby, so good luck to them.”

Usually, wet conditions do provide an opportunity for Alonso and McLaren to challenge higher up the grid and, based on practice, even P11, he admitted, was perhaps better than what would have been possible in the dry.

“We haven’t been very competitive this weekend and in Q1 we were already a bit concerned that we wouldn’t make it through to Q2,” the former Ferrari driver, who won his first F1 race in Budapest in 2003 admitted.

“Thanks to the rain we managed to get to P11, which is a good place, close to the points zone. Starting positions here are quite important and we are probably further up than we thought we would be.”
