Jose Mourinho caused no shortage of controversy with his post-match interview after Sunday morning's defeat to Liverpool.Manchester United were well and truly humbled during their pre-season friendly, losing 4-1 virtue of goals from Sadio Mane, Daniel Sturridge, Sheyi Ojo and Xherdan Shaqiri.Andreas Pereira scored a sublime free-kick during the match, but it wasn't enough to cheer up Mourinho who dropped a series of eye-catching comments after the game.Mourinho lamented his lack of options on the United States tour and vented his frustration over transfers, noting: “I would like to have two more players. I think I am not going to get two."I think that it’s possible I will have one. I gave a list to my club of five names a few months ago and I wait to see if it’s possible to have one of these players. If it’s possible, it’s possible. If it’s not, it’s not.

Mourinho's shock post-match comments

"If it’s possible, it’s good. If not then we keep fighting and working and believing in the players that we have.”

His general post-match comments were very worrying to hear and it won't exactly fill United fans with confidence going into a season likely to define Mourinho's tenure.

In fairness to Mourinho, he is hard done by when it comes to his options and the amount of players on post-World Cup holidays but there has been no need for such an explosive reaction.

Mourinho asked is Sanchez looks unhappy

And one of his most volatile comments came when a journalist asked if Mourinho thought Alexis Sanchez looked unhappy.

Pretty innocent, right? Well, Mourinho gave him quite the answer.

The United boss replied: "Look, do you want him to be very happy with the players he has around him? We are here just to survive and to have some not very ugly results. Alexis is the only striker we have. And the poor man is there trying his best."

Wow, Jose.

Unsurprisingly, the comments sparked quite the reaction amongst the United fanbase with some noting Mourinho ignoring the club's youth and others straight-up losing faith.

Man Utd fans react on Twitter

Take a look at the reaction below:

It's not what you want going into a new season that's for sure and this isn't the reaction United fans want to see from their manager.

And amidst all his fiery comments on the night, he didn't forget to take aim at Anthony Martial who left the pre-season tour for the birth of his child.

He told MUTV: "Anthony Martial, he had the baby, and after the baby was born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank god – he should be here and he’s not here.

"So we have Alexis [Sanchez] and [Juan] Mata to play every minute of every match. And now we have Real Madrid, and after that Bayern Munich."

Mourinho, it's fair to say, really isn't happy.
