It's been an incredibly tough three months for Loris Karius.

The Liverpool goalkeeper was enjoying a promising end to the season when, in the biggest game of his career, everything came crashing down with two high-profile errors.

Many wondered whether he would ever get over the events of the Champions League final and the narrative of his pre-season campaign has seen that question rise in prominence.

Whether from the pressure or not, Karius has made a series of errors this summer.

He failed to collect a tame free-kick in the victory over Tranmere Rovers and during a shaky performance against Borussia Dortmund, dropped a clanger for the German side's third goal.

Sadly, his poor form has led online abuse with his Liverpool teammates publicly coming out to support him and condemn the actions of trolls.

Even Karius himself took to Instagram, posting: "To those who take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer, I feel for you.

"Whatever it is that's happening in your life to hold this much anger and hate, I pray that it passes and good things come to you."

It's sad to hear, no doubt about it, and Karius has largely been out of the limelight since that game with Kamil Grabara and Caoimhin Kelleher between the sticks for the Manchester United game.

Liverpool ran out comfortable 4-1 victors and although he didn't come on, he was still in the mind of the supporters and a few Kopites in particular.

A photo from within the Michigan Stadium of Liverpool supporters holding up a banner for Karius has emerged and it's pretty heartwarming.

The message on the banner reads: "Hold your head up high and don't be afraid of the trolls. YNWA Karius."

Sadly, there is a minority of supporters who have used social media to intimidate Karius recently but the vast majority have stood by the ethos of 'You'll Never Walk Alone.'

There are few more passionate supporters in football than Kopites and although it might be a small gesture, it will no doubt resonate with Karius if he get the chance to see the photo.

Karius will need plenty of emotional support going through the coming weeks and months to put this tumultuous period behind him and progress with his career.

The arrival of Alisson Becker has certainly made his mission harder, but he can always strive to improve himself and fight for that number one jersey.

As long as he sports the colours of Liverpool, though, he has thousands upon thousands of supporters behind him.
