Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has looked to Diego Maradona for inspiration in his decision to name a new club captain.
Kolo Toure was the man in possession of the armband last season but Carlos Tevez was named as the City skipper for the new campaign.
Now Toure has revealed that Mancini opted to change his Eastlands skipper in order to turn Tevez into an Argentine god.
"The boss came to see me at the start of the season and told me he had a difficult decision to make," said Toure.
"He broke the news that he would be making Carlos captain, in order that he would become a lot more involved with the club's squad.
"He even quoted the example of Diego Maradona at Napoli, who worked wonders once he had been appointed their captain.
Former Arsenal favourite Toure graciously accepted the decision of the manager to make 26-year-old Tevez the new Citizens leader, claiming that the change will only aid their quest for Premier League glory.
Toure added: "I told him it was not a problem and accepted his decision. I'm not more important than the team and the decision was taken for the benefit of Manchester City."
