On Saturday night, Jose Aldo returned to the cage, fighting at UFC on FOX 30.

The Brazilain last fought in December 2017 - in a losing effort against Max Holloway.

In fact, he last won back in July 2016, over two years ago. But Saturday's fight against Jeremy Stephens restored some balance to his MMA career.

THE FIGHT

Aldo finished his bout, which was the penultimate match on the card, in round one.

Despite taking some good shots early on, "Junior" recovered and with just over one minute remaining in round one, he floored Stephens.

Aldo landed a strong body shot which saw "Lil Heathen" fall to the ground and he followed that up with some brutal ground and pound before the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

BACK ON TRACK

Considering he's coming off the back of two losses against current UFC featherweight champion Holloway, Aldo needed this victory against Stephens.

Some fans have started to suggest that the 31-year-old is losing his touch, but Saturday's performance showed that he's still world-class.

Now, the aging fighter only has three fights left on his current MMA contract - and following his TKO victory, he wants one more thing before he leaves the UFC.

ANOTHER TITLE SHOT

Aldo believes that he deserves another shot at the featherweight title - but admitted that it may not come instantly.

"So that’s all the work that we’re going to doing for now," Aldo said following his latest fight, per MMAMania.

"I think the performance was good enough to catch the eyes of the matchmakers again, and show that I do belong here.

"I am a top fighter in this division, and I’m ready to get another title shot eventually in this run."

He's made his demands clear but securing another bout with the current champion will be tough.

THIRD TIME LUCKY?

As mentioned, Aldo has already lost back-to-back fights against Holloway, who currently holds the featherweight belt.

On top of that, "Blessed" is currently injured anyway, although he's expected to make a return soon.

Dana White has confirmed that UFC will "wait for him" rather than push on with an interim title fight.

Therefore, the No. 1 contender, Brian Ortega, will likely still face Holloway, rather than Aldo next - even after the Brazilian's latest win.
