It's no secret that Jose Mourinho is unhappy with Man United's transfer business this summer.

The Portuguese boss has made just three signings so far: Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.

And after watching his side lose 4-1 against Liverpool in the International Champions Cup, Mourinho complained how he wants the club to make more signings.

"I would like to have two more players," he said.  "I think I am not going to get two. I think that it’s possible I will have one.

"And that one, I gave a list to my club of five names a few months ago. And I wait to see if it’s possible to have one of these players.

"If it’s possible, it’s possible. If it’s not, it’s not. If it’s possible, it’s good. If not then we keep fighting and working and believing in the players we have."

Mourinho went on to explain how the club could be 'in trouble' at the start of the season due to their depleted squad.

That was always bound to attract the attention of Man United's board. Their reaction has now been reported by the Guardian, and some may view it as a bit of a surprise.

The publication claim that Mourinho retains the full backing of the board, despite his outburst.

Man United’s hierarchy are sympathetic to the manager’s unease and there remains optimism that Mourinho could still make a fourth signing, at least.

And they've even told him that there are still finances to strengthen his squad, with there being no need for Mourinho to sell before making any purchase.

That will come as good news to Mourinho and Man United fans.

There have been suggestions that Mourinho's relationship with the board is completely breaking down over uncertainty with transfers.

But it seems like it's completely the opposite.

The Guardian go on to state that the 55-year-old is targeting a wide forward and a centre-back, with Inter’s Ivan Perisic and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire among his targets.

Whether Mourinho is able to add to his squad before next week's Premier League opener against Leicester, however, remains to be seen.
