Max Holloway suffered a medical scare earlier this month ahead of his UFC Featherweight Championship defense at UFC 226.

As a result, Blessed was forced to pull out of UFC 226's co-main event with Brian Ortega just two days before the July 7 event due to concussion-like symptoms.

There are still some people however that believe the reason why Holloway pulled out of the fight was due to weight cut issues. The man himself has since provided an update on his health and what went down on UFC 226 fight week.

Conned to ER

Holloway said to ESPN: “Monday I got conned by the UFC and my team to go to the ER. I was told that they had a van waiting for me downstairs and we're gonna do more media, and then we end up in ER.

"I see a lot of people in the media talking about my weight cut, stroke or whatever. I’ve grown up in front of everyone's eyes here in the UFC. This wasn't a weight cut [issue], I made weight 20-plus times.

"You guys have been there through the hard weight cuts, the easy ones to the hard training camps, you guys have been there through everything and this wasn't it.

"This wasn't a weight cut thing. It was weird. I don't know how to explain it.”

Slow return

Holloway stated that he begged UFC to allow him to fight and that they still haven't figured out what was wrong with him, so UFC is taking it slow for his return.

He's hoping to be back in the Octagon by the end of 2018.

He said: “I was begging them to fight. I was telling them I’m fine, I was saying anything and everything to get in there and do the walk. I wanted to fight. We put in a camp and I just wanted to fight. It’s been a wild 2018 for me but we’re not done yet.

"They put me on medical suspension for like 30 days now, we’re taking it slow. They still didn’t figure out what was wrong but everything’s coming back good and they’re just being cautious with me right now. We should get back to business hopefully before the end of the year."

He continued: "All of the tests were great. When you hear those kind of things, it's great but yet scary. You want to know what's wrong. It's crazy we just don't have the answers. I'm just glad I'm healthy and OK."

Holloway has won 12 fights in a row, but he hasn't stepped foot inside the Octagon since UFC 218 in December when he defeated Jose Aldo.
