Roma's excellent tweet

But Barcelona swooped in with a late bid of £45 million, completed the signing and left Roma with egg on their face.

In what is a rather awkward circumstance for all parties, Roma take on Barcelona in the early hours of Wednesday morning (UK time) in Texas.

But Roma have sought to ease the tension by cracking a joke about the Malcom saga.

Excellent.

While Roma’s social media team are able to laugh about the situation, club officials aren’t.

Roma president James Pallotta launched a scathing attack on Barcelona last week.

“There's no question that we had a deal with Malcom, then Barca jumped into the mix unethically and immorally. They knew this was done,” Pallotta said on American radio station Sirius XM.

“Other teams know not to come in and do what Barca did. Bordeaux should have never been doing what they did.

“Their actions were ridiculous.”

Pallotta’s frustrations are entirely understandable.

Malcom was due to arrive for a medical at Roma at 11pm last Monday.

Even after Barcelona came in with a late bid, Roma returned with an increased offer themselves.

But Bordeaux wanted more money, claims Roma sporting director Monchi.

The Italian club were unwilling to enter into an auction and Malcom eventually joined Barca.

Victory over the Spanish club tonight would feel extra sweet indeed.
