The Premier League season hasn’t even started yet and Jose Mourinho already appears to be suffering from his usual ‘third season syndrome.’

Mourinho hasn’t lasted three seasons at any of his previous clubs during his managerial career and he will want to break that curse with Manchester United to prove everyone wrong.

But even before his third campaign has officially started, it seems time is ticking on Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford.

Following his side’s 4-1 International Champions Cup defeat to Liverpool, the Portuguese boss had a rather incredible rant about, well, almost everything.

Nobody was safe as Mourinho took aim at United’s youngsters, Antonio Valencia, Anthony Martial and - most notably - Ed Woodward.

"I would like to have two more players," Mourinho said after the match. "I think I am not going to have two. I think it’s possible I am going to have one. It’s possible.

"And that one I gave a list to my club five names a few months ago, and I wait to see if it's possible to have one of these players."

Mourinho’s post-match interview saw bookmakers make him favourite to be the first Premier League manager to leave their job this season.

And it seems United themselves are already preparing for Mourinho’s exit.

That’s because, according to The Sun, the club already know who they will contact should Mourinho leave - Zinedine Zidane.

The Sun writes: “Zinedine Zidane will be top of Manchester United’s wish list if Jose Mourinho departs."

Surely that will excite any United fan.

Of course, the Frenchman won three consecutive Champions League titles at Real Madrid before leaving shortly after their latest success against Liverpool.

And with Zidane currently out of work, the club wouldn’t have to pay a fee to appoint the 46-year-old.

However, Mourinho still has two years left on his current contract and, despite his comments in the media, is unlikely to leave the club anytime soon.

But if he does, at least United fans know the club have a very good replacement in mind.
