Fred's highlights v Madrid

Man United fans were mightily impressed by Fred's display and a video quickly emerged of his highlights against the European champions.

The early evidence suggests he's going to be a massive hit at Old Trafford.

He does look a remarkable talent.

Man United supporters on social media had plenty to say about Fred's performance against Real Madrid.

They were impressed by the energy he brought to Mourinho's midfield - but they especially loved his forward thinking nature.

The Manchester Evening News summed up Fred's first start nicely.

"First start for United and it's easy to see what Mourinho thinks he will bring to the side. Doesn't give the ball away cheaply and so calm under pressure."

It was Man United's best performance of pre-season thus far.

Mourinho said: “My players were amazing in their effort but we have more effort in front of us because in a few days we go to Munich and in 10 days we start the Premier League.

“We will have [Victor] Lindelof who started training two days ago, plus Marcus Rashford, Jones and Lukaku because they gave to the group and to the team three days of their holidays.

"They are coming back three days early to try to be available for the team.

“We have the fantastic spirit we have in the majority of the players – I repeat in the majority of the players, we have a fantastic spirit. We go with everything we have to the Premier League.”

Man United kick off their Premier League campaign against Leicester City on Friday August 10.
