Arsenal go into the 2018/19 season with a new lease of life.

After a period of stagnation under Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery has taken the reigns and will lead the Gunners into very unfamiliar territory.

Throughout their pre-season campaign, it has been strange not seeing Wenger in the dugout barking out orders, but things had to change.

And Emery wasted no time in letting his presence be felt, acting quickly in the transfer market to sign Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

Torreira was the most eye-catching signing in defensive midfield, while Guendouzi has also impressed in a similar role in pre-season.

Lichtsteiner is yet to feature after his World Cup exploits with Switzerland, but Sokratis has been handed a lot of minutes.

The Greek defender was seen as a cheap, quick fix for Arsenal's leaky defence and all eyes were on him during his first game against Premier League opposition.

And he sparked a lot of reaction on Twitter, but a lot of it was not positive.

Arsenal fans are concerned with his lack of speed and are beginning to realise that he may not be the solution.

ARSENAL FANS REACT

Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi certainly doesn't look like a centre-back partnership capable of competing for major honours.

Calum Chambers and Rob Holding have both featured in pre-season and it will be interesting to see whether Emery places faith in them instead.

There's also Konstantinos Mavropanos, who could have a big part to play after impressing during the end of last season.

While it's maybe harsh to judge a player on a pre-season performance, it seems clear that there won't be a quick fix for Arsenal's defence anytime soon.

Sokratis and Mustafi are far too similar and Emery should certainly consider dropping one and forming a new centre-back partnership.

And you can be sure Mustafi would be the one voted out.
