Last weekend saw former WBO champion Joseph Parker lose to Britain's Dillian Whyte in a heavyweight bout at London's O2 arena.

It was Parker's second successive loss thanks to an unanimous decision from the judges, having lost to Anthony Joshua in Cardiff earlier this year.

However, Parker's promoters are looking to appeal that result as the referee Ian Lewis did not see a head clash between the two heavyweights in the second round, which led to Kiwi getting knocked down.

The scorecards were signalling that the fight was going to be a stalemate. Furthermore, Parker getting knocked down in the second round saw the judges all vote 10-8 in Whyte's favour.

It was heartbreak for Parker as the final scorecards read 113-112, 114-111 and 115-110, all in the Brit's favour, in front of a raucous home crowd.

Duco Boxing, Parker's promotional company, have released a statement to signal their intention to appeal.

"It's clear the clash of heads in the second round had a significant impact on the fight, both in terms of the scorecards and Joseph's performance in the middle rounds," as per Radio NZ.

"In light of what is clear evidence of a significant error by the officials, there is a legitimate question as to whether the result should stand.

"That's a question Duco will be asking the sanctioning bodies on Joseph's behalf."

Parker's trainer Kevin Barry, made comments after the fight which signalled his team's unhappiness at the way the clash of heads incident was handled.

"It was a round we were winning, it was a 10-9 round and it went from being a 10-9 round to us to a 10-8 round to Dillian.

"When you talk about that headbutt, I think the effects of the headbutt were suffered in rounds three and four, Joe just wasn't himself.

"It wasn't until the fifth round I believe he actually had everything going again.

"He was a little dazed from that and shocked when he came back to the corner."

This result could have massive implications on the former WBO champion's career, which is why Duco Boxing are appealing the result.

Whyte, 30, is on course for a heavyweight showdown with compatriot Anthony Joshua, which would be a rematch between the two Brits.

Unfortunately for Parker, he is set to slide down the rankings and will have to work his way back up the ladder to ensure he is back in world championship contention once more.
