Kevin Durant signed a new two year deal with the Golden State Warriors last month with a player option in 2019 meaning he could become a free agent again next summer. While Durant's future is unclear, we have been given an insight into his past, which could affect what he decides to do should he become a free agent next year. It's been two years since KD announced that he would be leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder and signing with the Warriors. Ever since that day, many people have hated him for moving for himself. However, ever since that day too, Durant has had the freedom to be himself.

Phony in OKC

Fox Sports' Chris Broussard recently reported that the Warriors star recently texted him and expressed how conflicted he has been as a player throughout his career, and how he's a different player now at Golden State than what he was in Oklahoma.

Broussard stated how different of a player Durant was during his time with the Thunder because he was just trying to please everyone.

Broussard finished by saying: "Durant texted me and said 'the guy you see now is the real me. The guy in Oklahoma City was the phony -- I was just trying to please everybody and do what I thought everybody wanted me to do.'

"I'm gonna take him at his word."

Broussard added as well that Durant's friends felt that KD finally made a decision for himself when he joined the Warriors.

We've seen Durant change too, as the Warriors star has become much more open about his feelings since moving and he expresses his emotions on the court a lot more often as well.

A lot of people have drawn comparisons between LeBron James and Durant for their career paths, and while LeBron has now received admiration, Durant has not.

It is clearly bothering him, and rightfully so. He's a two-time NBA Champion and Finals MVP, yet some people still aren't pleased with him.

Overall, what we can take from this is Durant is going to do what he wants to do and what is best for him personally no matter how it affects the Warriors as a franchise or any of his teammates.

This is huge as it could play a big factor into his decision making next year as he looks to either serve the last year of his two year deal with Golden State or opt out to look for somewhere else to play in 2019.
