Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard both made the jump into management this summer after enjoying stellar playing careers.

Gerrard had been part of Liverpool's youth setup, but his decision to take the reigns at Rangers represents a huge step in his career.

He has overseen a good start, however, after guiding the Scottish giants through two stages of qualifying in the Europa League.

Lampard, too, will be looking forward to the upcoming season after taking his first managerial role at Derby County.

He will manage his first competitive game on Friday night as his side travel to Reading.

Naturally, the two are good friends with first their playing careers, and now their managing career intwined.

And Lampard has revealed that the two have been sending texts about their experiences thus far, particuarly about how 'mad' management is.

“When you’ve been competitive for a long time as a player you miss the bug. It was something I had to do and I couldn’t settle for that easy life when there was an opportunity to come and do this,” he said, per the Telegraph.

“Myself and Steven were texting back and forth on Tuesday discussing the mad life of management and how we both see it. We are both the same, we are enjoying every minute of it. It's strange and you can't switch off because you want to do so well, that's certainly how I feel."

It's good to hear both are sharing their experiences as they venture into their management careers.

Lampard also opened up about how much dedication he is putting into his new job.

“Some days you can't switch off which means giving it every moment of the day," he added. "It draws you back in and for all the 24-hours a day talk and lack of sleep, you can’t help but love it.

“Television work is comfortable, there is pressure because you want to do the job as best as you can: but when you've been competitive for a long time as a player you miss it.”

The 40-year-old also claimed how his side need "patience" in order to get off to a good start.

“We will need patience if we don’t get off to a good start. Sometimes there’s a longer story than the instant success we always seem to look for,” he continued.

“I'm certainly fully into this and I want to be the best manager I can possibly be -- no matter what my name is, no matter what my playing career was. I'm absolutely starting afresh here.

“I might have a tiny honeymoon period because it's my first job and because I played at a high level for a long time, but I'm not the first or the last one to have done that. I know I'll be judged on what happens in the weeks and months coming up.”
