Crystal Palace made one of the best signings of the summer yesterday after completing a deal for Max Meyer on a free transfer. The German youngster is highly rated in his home country, but chose to run down his contract with Schalke 04 in pursuit of a move away.Meyer managed to score 22 times in 192 appearances for the German club, while also making four appearances for his country. He was linked with a move to Arsenal or Liverpool earlier on in the window, but it was the south London club who won the race for his signature. As a creative attacking midfielder, he will be paramount for The Eagles this season as they go in search of a top half finish. While everyone at the club is undoubtedly happy he has joined, Crystal Palace made an embarrassing blunder on their website after announcing his signing. In a post titled '5 Key Moments From Meyer's Career', Crystal Palace used a picture of Joshua Kimmich playing for Germany, rather than a picture of Meyer.

Awkward. Meyer would probably not have been very appreciative of this.

The post has since been amended, with a picture of Meyer in a Schalke shirt now in use.

However, they would still be embarrassed for the mix-up.

Meanwhile, the German has announced his pleasure after signing for the club.

"I feel really good and I'm happy to be here," he told Cpfc.co.uk. "I can't wait to start training with the team and I hope I'll have a good season.

"I'm proud to be here and I hope I can make the next step in my career. I want to give my best and I think we can have a good season - maybe better than the last.

"I played at Selhurst Park last season for Schalke and the atmosphere was perfect, and I can't wait to experience the atmosphere for a Premier League game."
