There are many Chelsea fans that are eager for Ruben Loftus-Cheek to stay at the club.

The 22-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Stamford Bridge.

He chose to move to Crystal Palace on loan last season, where he flourished under the guidance of Roy Hodgson.

He managed to score twice in 24 appearances, and earned a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

But what do Chelsea plan to do with him this season?

According to the Times, Chelsea have made it clear that they want Loftus-Cheek to stay at Stamford Bridge this season.

But it is believed that the Lewisham born midfielder is not that convinced.

The Times write the England midfielder has yet to commit to that because he wants reassurances over how often he is likely to play.

They go on to state that he is unlikely to force the issue before the window closes next Thursday, but will pursue a loan move in Europe if he is not playing regularly before August 31.

It seems this month could be pivotal for whether Loftus-Cheek stays at Stamford Bridge this season.

Maurizio Sarri has a number of central midfielders already at his disposal.

While he is only likely to play three, Loftus-Cheek is competing with Cesc Fabregas, N'Golo Kante, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater, Jorginho and Ross Barkley for a space in the team.

It will be hard to break through with such strength in depth in midfield, meaning Loftus-Cheek may have no choice but to seek a move away.

The 22-year-old has consistently stated in the last few months that he wants to play for a club that can guarantee him first-team football.

"I've had a taste of what Premier League football is like, I don't want to miss out on that next season,” Loftus-Cheek said after England were knocked out of the World Cup. “I’ll have a little break and then we go from there.

“I try to do my best every time I play and if he’s watching then he’s watching but I don’t think about that.”
