Vince Carter is one of the oldest players in the NBA today at the age of 41, but his time in the league is almost up as father time eventually catches up to every player's career.

The shooting guard signed a one-year deal worth $2.39 million with the Atlanta Hawks this offseason, a deal which very well could be his last.

Speaking to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Toronto Raptors legend said he believes this season could very well be his last in the league.

Carter said that he’s ’90-something percent’ sure that he will retire after the 2018-19 season, and that he decided to join the Hawks for ‘an opportunity’ to play and also to pursue his post-retirement plans.

As for after retirement, the 41-year-old said as well that he plans to pursue a broadcasting career.

No ring chasing

Many in Carter's position, an older player who is yet to win an NBA title, would have joined a championship contender team in order to chase after that ring.

Carter, however, didn't want to do this, explaining that he didn't want to take the easier way out of the ring-less club.

He said: “It just feels right for me. I probably could have done that anywhere. I still want to play the game. Whatever minutes are there, I want. I enjoy teaching. I’ll do that for any team. That’s not a question. It’s just who I am.

"I come in from an era where that’s not how it was so that’s still instilled in me. I don’t have any problem with how it’s done now. It’s just not for me.”

Many NBA had their fingers crossed that Carter would return to the Raptors for one more season before calling it a day but it doesn't look like it's going to happen which is a shame.

The eight-time All-Star averaged 5.4 points per game during his time at the Sacramento Kings last season and he will play for his eighth team this year in Atlanta.
