Gonzalo Higuain joined AC Milan from Juventus on Thursday. The Argentine striker left Turin on a one-year loan deal following Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival from Real Madrid.Meanwhile, 31-year-old defender Leonardo Bonucci rejoined the Italian champions after just one season in Milan.Higuain was unveiled to the media on Friday lunchtime - and he revealed why he ended up in Milan and not Stamford Bridge. The Blues had been linked with the former Napoli hitman following Alvaro Morata's difficult debut season in west London.New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri worked with Higuain in Naples before the striker left for Juventus in 2016.And it's emerged that Sarri wanted to bring him to the Premier League this summer.

Higuain on Chelsea

To their fans frustration, Chelsea have only made one signing this summer - Jorginho arrived from Napoli in a £57m deal.

And Higuain's explanation for why he chose AC Milan and not Chelsea will further anger their supporters.

"I have great respect for Sarri but he was only one who wanted me at Chelsea," Higuain told reporters.

"Here at Milan everyone wanted me. The motivation and conviction they showed at Milan was fundamental."

Antonio Conte wasn't backed in the transfer market last summer and it appears Sarri is suffering the same fate.

The Chelsea supporters aren't even surprised anymore - the board and Marina Granovskaia are simply not doing enough, in their eyes.

It appears Chelsea will be sticking with Morata up front.

The 25-year-old striker completely lost his confidence last season, managing just one Premier League goal in 2018.

Morata missed out on Spain's 23-man World Cup squad and has struggled to impress in Chelsea's pre-season friendlies.

“I don’t know if he [Morata] is not confident,” Sarri said after their friendly against Arsenal. “Maybe he was tired.

“The last three days for him were very intense, so maybe this match he was a bit tired. I am not worried about Morata.”

Chelsea face Manchester City in the Community Shield final on Sunday before a trip to Huddersfield Town on the opening day of the 2018/19 season.
